The goal of home care support services is to allow people to continue living at home safely, by ensuring that they can be as independent as possible. In addition to respecting the person’s right to live at home for as long as they can, these services are intended to prevent or reduce the length of hospitalization or facilitate the person’s return home after an illness or surgery.

This program is offered to all adults experiencing a loss of independence. Certain services are also available to their family members and family caregivers.

Based on the needs assessed, the services may include a number of components, such as psychosocial support, rehabilitation, nutrition, home help, medical and nursing care, palliative care and help with requests for a residential placement.

How do I access the services?

These services are available through the central access point for independence supports for seniors (Guichet d’accès centralisé du soutien à l’autonomie des personnes âgées).

The services are determined by assessing the person’s situation, needs and environment, and the ability of his or her family to participate in home support. The family’s collaboration is required for the services to be delivered.

• The various home help services can be provided by family and home support workers, employees hired by mutual agreement, and community organizations. The CISSS Outaouais works with four domestic help social economy businesses (DHSEBs):
• The Mont d’Or, serving the Pontiac territory
• The Coopérative de solidarité en aide domestique de la Vallée-de-la-Gatineau, serving the Vallée-de-la-Gatineau territory
• Remue-ménage de l’Outaouais, serving the Gatineau territory and part of Des Collines
• The Coop des 1001 corvées, serving the Papineau area, mainly the Petite-Nation sector

Where are the services provided?

These services can be provided at home, in non-institutional resources (NIR) and private seniors’ residences.

Home intervention does not simply mean “providing services at home,” it also means taking a “support” approach, which involves considering the person’s situation, the people around them and their environment.
